Affenpinschers have a terrier-like personality but get along better with other dogs than terriers. They are active, fun-loving and adventurous, yet nold and stubborn. They are fearless and confident which causes them to bark and climb a lot. This breed is very loyal to their family and is very affectionate.

They learn commands quickly though need consistency in training. They are not recommended for small children since they can become territorial with food and toys. Some may be difficult to housebreak.
